How to get Squarespace form notifications on your phone
The Squarespace app doesn't alert you to form submissions. How to get them on your phone by email, through Zapier or with a form alert service.
- Updated
Short answer
Squarespace has no push notification for form submissions: its app only alerts you about traffic, analytics and store activity. To get enquiries on your phone, send the form's email storage to an address your phone notifies you about, pass submissions to Zapier on the Core plan or above, or add a form alert service through Code Injection to get them by WhatsApp, text or Telegram.
Key takeaways
- Every Squarespace form block needs a storage option, and new ones email the person who added the form.
- The Squarespace app's notifications cover traffic, analytics and store activity, not form submissions.
- Trial sites can't email form submissions, so use Google Drive or Mailchimp storage until you upgrade.
- Zapier storage and Code Injection both need the Core plan or above, not Basic.
- Keep email storage switched on as a backup whatever else you add.

Where do Squarespace form submissions go?
They go wherever the form's storage settings send them, and every form block needs at least one storage option before visitors can submit it. By default a new form block emails submissions to the account address of the person who added it. Squarespace's help centre lists these destinations, though not every form type offers all of them:
An email address (form blocks only, one address per form)
The Contacts panel, for form blocks with a required email field, where submitters appear under Form Submitters
A spreadsheet in Google Drive
A Mailchimp audience
Zapier, which passes each submission on to another app
Squarespace mailing lists, for newsletter sign-ups
You can use more than one at once, and it's worth doing. Email gives you the alert, and Google Drive or the Contacts panel gives you a record that doesn't depend on an inbox. One catch for new sites: unless you're a Circle member, Squarespace turns off form submission emails on trial sites to prevent abuse, so a site still on its trial needs Google Drive or Mailchimp storage instead.
Does the Squarespace app notify you about form submissions?
No. The Squarespace app's push notifications, under More → Notifications, cover weekly analytics insights, traffic spikes, and store alerts and insights, and its help page doesn't list form submissions among them. The app can show you form conversion figures in its analytics, but not each new enquiry as it arrives.
On a phone, then, your choices are to make Squarespace's emails louder, to pass submissions to something that sends a phone alert, or to add a form alert service. Speed matters here: how fast you should reply to a website enquiry looks at why.
How do you get Squarespace form emails as phone notifications?
Point the form's email at an address your phone already notifies you about, then make those emails stand out. To change the address, open the Pages panel, click the page with the form and click Edit. Click the form block, then its pencil icon, and under Email Notifications click the current address, remove it with X and enter the new one.
Squarespace sends every submission from [email protected], with the subject "Form Submission - [form name] - [subject field]", and the format can't be changed. That fixed sender is useful: add it to your contacts and, in your mail app, give it its own notification or mark it as a VIP, so enquiries make a sound while newsletters stay quiet. Gmail may group submissions into one thread because they share a sender, so check the thread rather than waiting for a new one.
This is free and needs no extra tools, but it's only as quick as your mail app, and enquiries land among everything else in your inbox. Check your spam folder the first time, too.
A small change makes it more reliable: give enquiries their own address, such as enquiries@ on your domain, forwarded to whoever answers the phone. You can then turn on notifications for that one account and leave your main inbox silent. If you change the address in your Squarespace account or buy Google Workspace later, the form's storage doesn't update by itself, so check the form block afterwards.
What are the options, side by side?
At the time of writing, the ways of getting a Squarespace enquiry onto your phone compare like this.
| Option | What arrives on your phone | Squarespace plan needed | Extra cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Form email and your mail app | An email notification | A paid plan (trial sites can't email submissions) | None |
| Squarespace app | Nothing for forms | Any | None |
| Zapier | Whatever the next app sends, such as a Slack or SMS message | Core, Plus or Advanced (not Basic) [CHECK] | Zapier's free tier, then a monthly plan |
| A form alert service | A WhatsApp, text, Telegram, Slack or Teams message | Core, Plus or Advanced, for code injection [CHECK] | Free tier, then a monthly plan |
How to send Squarespace forms on with Zapier
Zapier is a storage option for form blocks and newsletter blocks, and each submission can then trigger an action in another app, such as a Slack message. Squarespace's own guide covers it in four stages.
-
Connect the form block
Click Edit or the pencil icon on the form block, open Storage, click Zapier and then Connect. The block shows "Awaiting connection from Zapier".
-
Create an API key
Open the Developer tools panel, click Developer API Keys, then Generate Key. Name it, tick Forms under Permissions, and copy the key. Squarespace won't show it again.
-
Create the Zap
In Zapier, create a Zap with Squarespace's New Form Submission trigger, sign in with the API key and choose the form.
-
Add the action
Pick what should happen next, such as a message in Slack or a text through an SMS app, and map the form's fields into it.
Squarespace notes that it doesn't store form submissions itself, so Zapier tests the trigger with a made-up example rather than a real enquiry. At the time of writing Zapier's Free plan includes 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps [CHECK], and each submission uses a task. Squarespace also says each form block needs at least one Zap per action, so three forms sending to Slack means three Zaps. For texts specifically, how to get website form submissions as text messages compares the options.
Which option should you choose?
For most small businesses, the answer is email plus one faster route. Email storage costs nothing and keeps a copy of every enquiry, so leave it on. Then add the route that matches how you already work.
If your team lives in Slack, or you already pay for Zapier, a Zap from the form block is the natural next step. Someone out on jobs who wants a message that pings like a customer's text is better served by a service that sends WhatsApp or SMS. The Basic plan has neither Zapier storage nor Code Injection, so on Basic you're limited to email and your mail app's notifications until you move to Core.
How does a form alert service work with Squarespace?
A form alert service adds a small script to your site that reads each form submission as it's sent and forwards it to your phone, while your form block's storage carries on as before. On Squarespace the script goes in Code Injection, which Squarespace includes on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans and some legacy plans, but not Basic. Code added to the Footer field is placed before the closing body tag on every page, so one paste covers every form block.
Make sure the service accepts submissions from every address your site is served from. If visitors can reach the site on its built-in squarespace.com address as well as your own domain, add both.
Formcrier is one option, and it can send each enquiry as a WhatsApp message, a text, or a Telegram, Slack or Teams post.
-
Add your site
Sign up and enter your Squarespace site's address.
-
Paste the script
In Squarespace, go to Settings → Advanced → Code injection → Footer, paste the script from Sites → Install, and save.
-
Switch on your form
Open a page with the form. It appears under Sites → Forms; switch it on.
-
Connect your phone
Go to Alert destinations → Add destination. For WhatsApp, scan the QR code and press send on the message that opens; for a text, enter a UK mobile and type in the code.
-
Send a test
Fill in the form on your live site and check the alert arrives within a few seconds.
The Free plan includes 10 alerts a month and keeps submissions for 7 days. Email alerts don't count towards it, so Squarespace's own email can stay switched on as a backup. The Squarespace integration page has the details, and how to get website enquiries on WhatsApp explains the WhatsApp side.
Frequently asked questions
Not directly: each form block can only have one email address connected. Use a shared inbox or a forwarding rule, or add a second route such as Zapier or a form alert service to reach more people.
Check the form still has an Email storage option with the right address, and that your site isn't on a trial, because trial sites can't email submissions. Then look in your spam folder for mail from [email protected].
Squarespace doesn't keep a full submissions inbox, so look wherever the form's storage sends them: your email, a Google Drive spreadsheet, Mailchimp, or Form Submitters in the Lists & Segments panel for forms with a required email field.
A well-built alert script is small and loads without holding up the page. Formcrier's is under 6KB compressed and sets no cookies.
